Affinity groups, which aim to create community over shared experiences and interests, have quantifiable impacts on the professional development, engagement, and retention of scholars from underrepresented groups. Women & Non-Binary People of Color in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology (WOCinEEB) is a community for scientists who self-identify as women and non-binary people of color and who work in ecology, evolutionary biology, and allied fields. WOCinEEB began in 2020 as an online community and, since its initiation, WOCinEEB has hosted mentoring programs, in-person leadership conferences, and networking events at a number of international conferences. We propose a networking event to bring together diverse scholars within the ASLO 2024 meeting. We aim for our event to create opportunities for women and non-binary people of color to meet each other, share experiences and ideas, and highlight the important contributions of women and non-binary people of color in the aquatic sciences.
