Dr. Jay Brandes, Professor, Skidaway Institute of Oceanography
They are Legion – microplastic behavior in the marine environment
Dr. Brandes is a Professor at the Skidaway Institute of Oceanography, University of Georgia. He received BS degrees in Chemistry and in Oceanography from Humboldt State University in California, and a Ph. D. in Chemical Oceanography from the University of Washington. Dr. Brandes studies carbon and nutrient cycling in the environment as well as marine debris and microplastic contamination in Georgia estuaries and nearshore waters.
G. Evelyn Hutchinson Award Talk
The G. Evelyn Hutchinson Award honors a scientist who has made considerable contributions to knowledge in limnology and oceanography, and whose future work promises a continuing legacy of scientific excellence. The 2025 Hutchinson Award is being presented to Dr. Dan Smale for his far-reaching work on marine heatwaves and their impact on marine biodiversity and conservation, bridging basic and applied research, as well as his leadership and commitment to policy and science communication.
