The ASLO hybrid journals, Limnology & Oceanography and Limnology & Oceanography: Methods, will be transitioning to fully open access. The ramifications of this “flip” are varied and potentially significant, to both society (changing revenue) and members (revenue helps fund member benefits). In partnership with the Raelyn Cole Editorial (RCE) Fellows, ASLO invited its members to participate in a survey aimed at identifying how familiar they are with Open Access (OA) publishing and related matters, how they prioritize and/or pay for OA when publishing, as well as their feelings about openly sharing other components of their research (e.g., datasets, protocols) with the scientific community. In this town hall, the RCE Fellows will report the results of this survey, answer questions posed by the audience, provide information on how to pay for OA publications in ASLO journals, and solicit feedback for ASLO’s Strategic Planning Committee on shaping the society’s vision for OA publishing.
