Taking the Aquatic Pulse · 26-31 March 2025 · Charlotte, North Carolina, USA
As with our own health, it is important to pause and reflect on how our decisions today will manifest in the environment tomorrow. For example, humans have a long history of inventing and producing durable materials (microplastics, PFAS). These persist and accumulate in the environment only to later discover, and be forced to manage, the unintended consequences. Human-induced climate change, industrial byproducts, and the environmental pressures of tourism are just some of the challenges to healthy ecosystems. Successful management of these challenges depends upon an understanding of history, current state, and future goals, to move toward a sustainable future that works for all. In addition, connectivity exists through all water systems, and we are connected to those systems. Just as we make time to assess our personal health, it is critical that we do the same for our aquatic environment. By proposing a session, we hope you’ll highlight the work being done to “take the pulse” and assess the state of our aquatic systems, whether that is through reconstructing the past, observing the current state, or predicting the future of our lakes, rivers, estuaries, and oceans.
Meeting Schedule
We look forward to having a dynamic meeting, but please note there is a unique pattern of dates for the meeting. The ASLO 2025 Aquatic Sciences Meeting will be an in-person meeting, beginning on Wednesday with an opening plenary and reception, then concluding on Monday – with the scientific program scheduled from Thursday to Monday.
Workshops, Town Halls, and Other Auxiliary EventsThe organizers of the meeting encourage the submission of requests for town halls, workshops, social events, student/early career events, and other auxiliary meetings. These events should be planned during lunch or possibly in the evening. Meeting room space will be complimentary if there are rooms available. All other costs will not be covered. Even if space is not available at the Charlotte Convention Center, you may still organize your own meeting or activity at an alternative location. Auxiliary event applications will be reviewed by the meeting chairs and members of the scientific committee. Organizers will be contacted in early 2025 with acceptance and details about their event. All session organizers who attend the meeting must register and be able to fund their own registration, travel, and accommodation. At least one organizer from each session must attend and oversee your session during the meeting. If you have questions about the application or an event that you are planning, please contact Becca Anderson at banderson@aslo.org. |
